Mr. John William Watson

Mr. John William Watson, age 92, of Cedar Bluff, passed away at his home in Cedar Bluff on Monday, February 28, 2022. John was born on Thursday, February 6, 1930, in the same house that he passed away in. He was born to the late John Alexander Watson and Hattie Bell Donahoo Watson. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, being stationed in Japan. He retired as a machinist from Babcock and Wilcox in 1985 after 32 plus years of service. He was known to the community as Big John or Uncle John and was loved by all that knew him. He enjoyed making hot sauce, pickles/pickled okra, sweet potato pies and homemade wine. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred (T. J.) Rodgers and Margaret (Max) Colbert, and one brother, Corkey (Joy) Watson, four half sisters, Winnie Golson, Juell Wilson, Louise (Luke) Watson and Frances Lloyd and one half brother, James A (Snook) Watson, two nephews Mark Colbert and Tommy Rodgers, and a niece, Kim Rodgers. Visitation will be Sunday, March 6, 2022, from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point. Funeral Services will follow at 2 P.M. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. R. C. Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in the Cedar Bluff Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery in Cedar Bluff. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. He is survived by two nephews, John Lee (Marcy) Colbert of Byron, Minnesota, and Kent (Stephany) Watson of Cedar Bluff, six nieces, Beth Vail of Cedar Bluff, Sandra (Ronnie) Freeland of Montrose, Colorado, Kay Rodgers of West Point, Tracy (Kent) Whittington of Townsend, Tennessee, Sherri (Nav) Singh of Lyons, Colorado and Dana (Chris) Hudgens of Millport, Alabama, and a number of great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be great nephews: Joshua, Bryan Robert and Baker Watson, Jake and Luke Hudgens, and Blake Garrard. Honorary pallbearers will be Amanda Fondren, Nav and Bella Singh, Ronnie Freeland, Robert Jones, Gary Hillhouse, Johnny Mitchell, Jimmy Donahoo, Kip Allen, Brian Barksdale, friends and former coworkers of Babcock and Wilcox and all friends in general.
