Mr. Alvin D. Sims

Mr. Alvin D. Sims, 78, passed away on March 24, 2015, at his home in West Point. Mr.Al was born March 31, 1936, in the Quincy Community of Monroe County, the son of the late Glados and Naomi Hensley Sims. He was a member of First Baptist Church in West Point, where he was a member of the Robert Smith Sunday School Class. He was a self-employed over the road trucker. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to fish. He was an avid Nascar fan, especially cheering for Dale Earnhardt, Sr. He married Gloria Burnheimer on October 25, 1956, in Wren. He was a loving husband, father, PaPaw, Great PaPaw, and Brother that enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Ancient Oaks Resort in Okeechobee, FL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Mary Ellen Kagel and by his brother: Grady Sims. Celebration of his life will be Friday, March 27, 2015, at 1:00 P.M. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Dale Funderburg officiating. Burial will follow in Durrett Cemetery in the Qunicy Community of Monroe County at 3:30 P.M. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include His Wife Gloria B. Sims of West Point, MS; One Daughter, Debbie S. Turner of West Point; One Son, Michael Sims of Madison; Granddaughter: Stephanie Carter (Andy) of West Point; and Three Great Grandchildren: Dustin Carter of Starkville, Britany Terry of West Point, and Haley Terry of West Point; and Two Brothers, Jerry Sims of Dothan, AL, and Larry Sims (Tessie) of Smithville. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Cowen, J. W. Davis, Glen Allen Forrester, Wayne Plunkett, Charles Magers, and Rocky Fulgham. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Robert Smith Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, Nurses and Staff of the North Mississippi Medical Center Home Health Care, Nurses and Staff of the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice, Nurses and Staff of the Cancer Care at Premier Health Complex in Starkville, Dr. Christopher Croot, Becker High School Class of 1954, Lynwood Prescott, Kenny Davis, Robert Smith, Craig Clay, and Trenton Stockton.
