Mrs. Ann Hurst Cummings

West Point, Mississippi - Ann Hurst Cummings, 77, died, October 16, 2020 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born December 6, 1942 in Minter City to the late Lena Wilhite and Grover C. Hurst. She was a Restaurant Owner/Manager for 30 years. She was of the Baptist faith. She married John Elzie Cummings on June 22, 1962 at West End Baptist Church who predeceased her on November 19, 2009. Mrs. Ann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend to all. Spending time with her family which was very special to her, especially because it afforded her the opportunity to feed all of them and send leftovers home. Cooking to Mrs. Ann was a passion. She was always cooking or canning and finding ways to give it away to family, friends and people that were in need. Owning and working at Stafford's Big Burger all those years came natural to her because she never met a stranger and genuinely loved people. One of her favorite things to do to pass time was to work crossword puzzles. She was preceded in death by her parents: Grover C. and Lena Wilhite Hurst, her husband; John E. Cummings, one infant daughter; Lisa Gail Cummings and one brother; Bud Hurst. Graveside funeral services will be Sunday, October 18, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. from Greenwood Cemetery in West Point with the Rev. Chris Craven officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include two sons, James Michael "Mike" Cummings of Birmingham, AL and John Anthony Cummings (Beth) of West Point, 6 Grandchildren: Aaron, Bradley, Jake, Beth Ann, Mckenzie, John Charles and adopted daughter Franziska Zimmerman from Soul, Germany, 7 Great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, two sisters, Kay Nordyke (Rick) of Cleveland, TN, Mary Hurst of West Point, two brothers, Joe Hurst of West Point and Charles Hurst of Mullens, SC. Pallbearers will be Aaron Cummings, Bradley Cummings, Jake Mathis, John Cummings, Chris Davis, Josh Myers, James Saylors and Cody Boyles. Honorary Pallbearers will be All Clay County Sheriff's Office Employees, North Mississippi Medical Center Staff and Nurses, Both in West Point and Tupelo and the West Point High School Class of 1962. Memorials may be made to Palmer Home for Children, P.O. Box 746, Columbus, MS 39701. Visitation will be 2:00-2:30 from the graveside in Greenwood Cemetery.
