Mrs. Betty Kirby

Mrs. Betty Sue Brown Kirby (August 26, 1931 - August 5, 2025) Mrs. Betty Sue Brown Kirby, age 93, went to be with her Lord Jesus on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. She was born in Dyersburg, Tennessee, on August 26, 1931, to Elbert Thomas and Fannie Mae Miles Brown. Betty was married to her loving husband, Thomas Brandon Kirby, for 66 years. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, having served as treasurer of her Sunday School Class. She was employed with BellSouth for many years as well as with First National Bank in West Point for over 20 years. Being a military spouse, to Thomas who served in the Navy, Betty lived all over the United States, moving often. These moves with their daughters resulted in lifelong friendships that were very special to her. After Thomas’s military retirement, West Point was their final home. Betty enjoyed the sport of bowling for over 70 years. She traveled all over the country competing in tournaments and winning numerous trophies and awards. Being with her friends and fellow bowlers were some of her most cherished times. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas Kirby; six brothers, Freddie Brown, Louard Brown, Richard Brown, Charles Brown, David Brown, and Billy Joe Brown; and four sisters, Mary Brandon, Sarah Roe, Louise Garrett, and Dorothy Pate. Visitation will be Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 1:00-2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church in West Point (560 East Broad Street). A funeral service will follow at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Michael-John Pope officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. Betty is survived by her three daughters, Debby Kirby McNamee (Danny), Michele Kirby Parker, and Sue Lynn Kirby Terry (Lyle), all of West Point: her eight grandchildren, Dena McNamee Pope (Rev. Michael-John), of Brandon; Brandon McNamee (Kiley), of West Point; Miles Parker (Ashley), of Columbus; Mitch Parker (Erin), of Columbus; Anna Terry, of West Point; Dusty Swartz, of West Point; Harrison Terry, of Huntsville, Alabama; and Kirby Swartz, of Starkville: her eight great-grandchildren, Ty McNamee, KayLeigh McNamee, Jackson Parker, Memphis Parker, Mason Parker, Charlotte Parker, Bryson Parker, and Bowie Scott. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Larry Kirby (Becky), of Huntingdon, Tennessee: three sisters-in-law, Marjorie Stewart, of Memphis, Tennessee, Martha Kirby, of Bruceton, Tennessee, Frances Brown, of Camden, Tennessee; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Betty loved all her family. Pallbearers will be Betty’s grandsons, Brandon, Miles, Mitch, Dusty, and Harrison, and her great-grandson, Jackson.
