Mr. Billy Black

Mr. Billy Black, 65, passed away on July 18, 2024, at his residence in Cedar Bluff. Mr. Billy was born November 26, 1958, in West Point the son of the late Gerald and Katie Estelle Ramage Black. He attended Griffith Christian Church. Mr. Billy enjoyed anything outdoors and was an avid and accomplished vegetable and flower gardener. He enjoyed fishing, collecting rocks, and playing the guitar. Collecting Stamps, coins, comic books, and artwork were just a few of his other hobbies that he enjoyed as well. He enjoyed woodworking and was a carpenter by trade having worked with Golden Triangle Cabinetry. He married Emily Staten Black in December of 1981 in West Point and they were married for 43 years. Of all of his accomplishments, he considered his family the greatest accomplishment any man could have. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 23, 2024, from 12:00-2:00 P.M. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 P.M. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with his children, Mr. Robert Black and Mrs. Michelle Black Cheney, officiating. Burial will follow in Palo Alto Cemetery near West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. Survivors include his Wife Emily Black of Cedar Bluff; one daughter, Michelle Black Cheney (John) of Cedar Bluff; one son, Robert Black (Amanda) of Pass Christian; three grandchildren: Caroline and James Cheney both of Cedar Bluff, and Arianna Black of Pass Christian; one sister, Linda Carley of Bovina; one brother, Gerald Black (Kim) of Ocean Springs; brother-in-law: James "Jimmy" Staten (Debra) of Pearl;mother-in-law: Frances Staten of Cedar Bluff; A number of nieces and nephews; Canine Companions: Mickey and Yoshi; his Gerbil: "Misses Gerbil" and several goldfish that he enjoyed caring for. Pallbearers will be John Cheney, Robert Black, Jim Andrews, Freddie Earl Melcher, Gerald Black, and Heath Donahoo. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Ned Miller, Dr. Jordan Steele, Nurses and Staff of West Point Medical Clinic, Tim Doss, and the Staff of North Mississippi Medical Center Ambulance Service.
