Mrs. Cora Wright Dendy

Mrs. Cora Wright Dendy, 80, passed away on July 11, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Mrs. Cora was born on April 24, 1945, in the Pine Bluff Community in Clay County, to the late Charles Carey and Wilma Laurene Johnson Wright. For her whole life she lived on the land, Pine Bluff Hill, where she was born and raised. She graduated from Clay High, where she was the Salutatorian of her class. In her younger years, she enjoyed riding horses. She baked cakes for her community and she was a self taught cake decorator. In many area grocery stores, you would find her giving out coffee samples. She was a lifelong, faithful member of Pine Bluff Baptist Church where she was the pianist for many years. She enjoyed many things in life, but being a "CoCo" to her grandchildren was her biggest enjoyment. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She married Douglas Lamar Dendy on October 6, 1963, at Pine Bluff Baptist Church and he predeceased her on May 3, 2020. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Charlsie Hulon Wright. Visitation will be Sunday, July 13, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point. Funeral services will be Monday, July 14, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Pine Bluff Baptist Church in the Pine Bluff Community with Mr. Lowell Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Bluff Baptist Church Cemetery. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. Survivors include one daughter, Christi Carter (Steve) of Starkville: one granddaughter, Stevi Carter (Jeremy) of Starkville: one grandson, Cole Carter (Candance) of Birmingham, Alabama: two sisters, Doni Wright Lucius of the Pine Bluff Community and Judy Gilliland of West Point: two nieces, Laurie Stephenson of Smithville and Jill Middleton (Carl) of West Point: one nephew, Jason Gilliland (Mary Ann) of West Point, and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews. Pallbearers will be Cole Carter, Steve Carter, Carl Middleton, Joseph Reeves, Zack Stephenson, Carver Middleton, and Jason Gilliland.
