Mrs. E. Jean Fair Bessey

Mrs. E. Jean Fair Bessey, 81, passed away on January 29, 2017, at her home in West Point. Mrs. E. Jean Fair Bessey was born October 13, 1935, in Union County near New Albany, the daughter of the late George Marshall and Lela Hogue Fair. She was an United States Army Veteran. She married Robert John Bessey on November 30, 1962, in Memphis, TN, and he passed away May 9, 2014. She was an OMBUDSMAN for the United States Navy Seabees based in Gulfport while her husband was stationed there. She was an avid and accomplished seamstress and upholster. Mrs. Bessey was the caretaker of her entire family for a longtime. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son: Robert John Bessey, II; One Sister: Elaine Freeman; and by Two Brothers: Malcolm and Paul Fair. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at 10:00 A.M. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Roy Myers officiating and assisted by Mr. Jim Verhine. United States Army Military Graveside Services will follow at 2:00 P.M. from Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery near New Albany. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include Three Daughters, Paula Bessey Verhine (James) of Decatur, AL, Gabrielle Denise Bessey of Huntsville, AL, and Danielle Angelique Kelley (Samuel) of Jonesboro, AR; One Son, Robert J. Bessey, III of West Point; Six Grandchildren: Robbie Verhine (Allison) of Grand Rapids, Mich, Beth Adams (Michael) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Samson Kelley, Eli Kelley, Hannah Kelley, and Gideon Kelley all of Jonesboro, Ark; and One Great Grandson: Jay Verhine of Grand Rapids, Mich; Two Sisters, Emily Wynns and Joyce O'Brien both of Olive Branch; Three Brothers, Leroy Fair (Gert) of West Point, Steve Fair (Sharon) of Lubbock, TX, and Lenzy Fair of Blytheville, Ark; and a number of Nieces and Nephews. Pallbearers will be Rob Bessey, Jim Verhine, Robby Verhine, Sam Kelley, Eli Kelley, Gideon Kelley, Samson Kelley, Lanny Fair, and Michael Adams. Honorary Pallbearers will be Nurses and Staff of North Mississippi Medical Center Home Health Care and Hospice. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942. Visitation will be Wednesday 9:00-10:00 A.M. at Calvert Funeral Home.
