Mr. Edward L. Lyon

Mr. Edward L. Lyon, 83, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2019, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Golden Triangle in Columbus. Mr. Edward was born September 20, 1936, in Cedar Bluff, the son of the late Garland Lee and Mattye Lee Gilliland Lyon. Mr. Lyon was an United States Army Veteran, having served during the Cuban Crisis. He was the founder and co-owner and operator of Lyon Insurance Agency in West Point. He was a faithful and loyal member of First Baptist Church in West Point, where he was a member of The Wallace Combs Sunday School Class. Mr. Lyon enjoyed gardening, fishing, spending time with his family in both The Smoky Mountains, and at the beach. He always cherished his beloved Cedar Bluff community and always loved spending time on "The Lyon Place." Mr. Lyon thoroughly enjoyed being a generous giver, always wanting it to be done anonomously. He married Brucie Doughty Lyon on November 6, 1966, in West Point, and they were married for soon to be 53 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two Brothers-in-Law: B.F. Jarman and James Hardister. Funeral services will be Sunday, October 20, 2019, at 2:30 P.M. from First Baptist Church with Mr. Josh Shideler officiating and assisted by Mr. Stanley Spradling and Mr. Jonathan Edwards. Burial will follow in Memorial Garden Cemetery in West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. Survivors include His Wife Brucie D. Lyon; two daughters, Kathy Comer (Danny) and Tricia Hemphill; one son, Gil Lyon (Cynthia) all of West Point; Five Grandchildren: Mackenzie Hemphill of Jackson, Anna Grace Hemphill, Daniel Comer, Mattye Hemphill, and Edward Cooper Lyon all of West Point; one sister, Hannah L. Jarman of Greenwood; Two Nephews: Frank Jarman of Madison and George Jarman (Buffee) of Greenwood; Great Niece: Mary Hannah Jarman of Greenwood; Sister-in-Law: Patsy Hardister of Brownsville, TN; Two Brothers-in-Law: Bill Doughty (Reta) of Tupelo and Dr. Julian Doughty (Barbara) of Tuscaloosa, AL; and a host of Cousins and other extended family. Pallbearers will be Billy Doughty, Joe Portera, Daniel Comer, Fred Zepponi, Jason Gilliland, Sonny Jameson, Roger Wedgworth, and Frank Jarman. Honorary Pallbearers will be Reverend Dale Funderburg, Wallace Combs Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, Johnny Gilliland, Glenn Brown, George Jarman, Tom McCann, Bill and Dr. Julian Doughty, Ken Harrellson, Randy and Danny Wedgworth, Steve Stanley, Richard Hazelwood, Steve White, Dwight Trulove, Andy and Gill Williams.
