Mr. George Hunt

Mr. George Hunt, 86, passed away on March 12, 2025, at his home in West Point. George was born on August 7, 1938, in Choctaw County, to the late Sherman Eldon and Mary Busby Hunt. George worked as a Welding Specialist for Babcock and Wilcox for over 30 years. He was also a Beef Cattle Farmer and delivered caskets for West Point Casket Company. He enjoyed playing chinese checkers, vegetable gardening, carpentry work, timber farming, and simply being outdoors. He and Marjorie were faithful members of West End Baptist Church in West Point, where he served as a Deacon and taught Sunday School for 21 years. He loved his church, but most importantly, he loved the Lord. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He married Marjorie Murphy Hunt on May 3, 1958 in Bellfontaine. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Genice Nowell and three brothers, Dewayne, James William, and Jerry Hunt. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 1:00-3:00 P.M. at West End Baptist Church in West Point. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 P.M. with Dr. James Towery officiating and assisted by Bro. Jerome Key. Burial will follow in Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Choctaw County. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Marjorie Hunt of West Point: four sons, Donald "Donny" Hunt of Nashville, Tennessee, Ronald "Ronny" Hunt (Rhonda) of Leonardtown, Maryland, Dale E. Hunt (Carrie) of Lake Village, Arkansas, and John E. Hunt of West Point: five grandchildren, Adam Hunt of Columbus, Georgia, Bruce Hunt (Olivia) of Lake Village, Arkansas, David Hunt (Susie) of Japan, Matthew Hunt of King George,Virginia and Stephen Hunt of King George, Virginia: seven great-grandchildren: three sisters-in-law, Betty Dobbs (Roy) of Ackerman, Norma Hughes (Billy Joe) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Audie Bell Hunt of Starkville, and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Adam Hunt, Bruce Hunt, Matthew Hunt, Stephen Hunt, Mark Hunt, Bruce Dobbs, David Hunt, and Eliot Hunt. Honorary Pallbearers will be Past and Present Deacons of West End Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Mt. Nebo Cemetery Fund, Ackerman, Mississippi 39735 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
