Mr. Hubert Lamar Watson

Hubert Lamar Watson, I, 85 passed away on April 21, 2024, at his daughter’s residence in Oktibbeha County. He was born on August 3, 1938, in the Pheba community of Clay County, the son of the late Thurman Allen Watson and the late Lillian Felder Watson. Following graduation from West Point High School, Hubert enlisted in the Army National Guard as a member of the 223rd Engineering Battalion where he received recognition as Most Outstanding Soldier. After completing his military service, he then continued his education attending East Mississippi Junior College, Northeast Mississippi Community College, and Mississippi State University. Hubert was a hard worker and he held many positions of employment over the years, which included P.I. Turner Engineering, 4-County Electric Power, and 37 years with the City of West Point Water Department. Even after retirement from the city, Hubert joined Navistar Defense working in Human Resources until November of 2011. Early hobbies included stock car racing, motorcycle riding, and hunting with his many good friends. Later, he spent time endeavoring to perfect his golf game and music became his passion. He always enjoyed being with his siblings and singing with his brothers as the Watson Brothers Trio. A Celebration of Life will be on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at 2:30 from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with Mr. Billy Butler officiating. Calvert Funeral Home in West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. In addition to his parents, Hubert was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Watson Nason of Aberdeen and his son, Bert Watson of Starkville. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Judy Aldridge Watson of West Point; two daughters, Holly Watson Creel of Warrior, Alabama and Rebecca Watson Rutherford (Jeff) of Starkville; five grandchildren, Nicholas Blackmon, Caleb Blackmon, Justin Blackmon, Sebastian Rigdon (Tess), and Noah Rutherford; two great grandchildren, Bennett Blackmon and Grayson Rigdon; his two sisters, Eloise Kisner (Jim), and Emily Hopkins; as well as his two brothers, Laymon Watson (Mary), and James Watson all of West Point; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Point - Clay County Animal Shelter, 5122 Old Tibbee Road, West Point, Mississippi, 39773. Hubert’s family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support and sympathy extended during this difficult time. Your kind words and gestures have been a source of great comfort.
