Mr. John Leslie Lester

Mr. John L. Lester, 82, passed away on November 19, 2017, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. John was born on April 17, 1935, in Batesville, the son of the late Willie Vinson and Faye Joslin Lester. John was a graduate of Batesville High School, where he participated in all sports. After high school, John played football at Tulane University in New Orleans. He then transferred to Mississippi State University, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Forestry. He married the love of his life Mary Horn on May 2, 1959, at her home in Raleigh. John came to West Point in 1969 as a State Farm Agent and retired in 2001. John was a member of First United Methodist Church in West Point where he taught Sunday School for a number of years. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially quail hunting and crappie fishing. John coached both of his sons in Little League baseball. Additionally, John was a big supporter of Oak Hill Academy and Mississippi State University. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Lester. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church in West Point with Reverend Darian Duckworth officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point, MS. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include Wife Mary Lester of West Point; Two Sons, Monty Lester (Connie) of Collierville, TN and Lance Lester (Melissa) of Nashville, TN; Three Grandchildren: Tyler Lester of Collierville, TN, Courtney Gober (Kenny) and Colt Lester both of Nashville, TN; One Great Grand: Maddox Gober of Nashville, TN: Two Brothers, David Lester (Shirley) of Jacksonville, FL, and George Lester (Shirley) of Madison, MS, a number of nieces and nephews, and Special Friends: Catina Walker and Latonia "CheChe" Orr both of West Point. Pallbearers will be Jamey Ballard, John Cherney, Frank Chiles, Tommy Henley, Wyllis Kemp, Brook Lester, Tyler Lester, and Kevin Flurry. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O.
