Mrs. Joyce Holcombe

Joyce Patterson Holcombe, 85, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born on November 10, 1940, in Winston County to Allen and Eula Reed Patterson. Joyce married Albert Edwin “Ed” Holcombe, Sr. on February 23, 1957, in Louisville. Together they built a life rooted in devotion, hard work and family. After settling in West Point, they owned and operated the Jiffy Shop and later, Holcombe Self Service became a familiar and trusted presence in the community. Ed preceded her in death on October 7, 2022. Joyce was raised with deep Christian roots. Her father, a devoted Pentecostal preacher, and devout Christian mother instilled in her a steadfast faith and belief in the value of hard work. Joyce later became a member of Calvary Baptist Church of West Point where she raised her children and lived out her faith with quiet strength and sincerity. Family was the center of Joyce’s world. She and Ed were blessed with four children: Eddie Holcombe (Shelley), Marty Holcombe (Christy), Jeff Holcombe (Angela), and Renee Holcombe Vernon (Ronnie), all of West Point; and someone she considered as another daughter and whom she loved dearly, Naima El Youmni. Joyce adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all whom lovingly called her “Mawmaw”. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter and unconditional love. Joyce enjoyed the simple joys of life – fishing, gardening, caring for others, playing cards and dominoes, and solving word search puzzles. She had a gentle spirit and a giving heart, always ready to help others and always happiest when surrounded by her family and friends. Joyce had a gift for making people feel welcomed in her home, whether through a thoughtful conversation, a home-cooked meal, or her words of wisdom during difficult times. She offered compassion without hesitation and her generosity extended beyond her family – friends, neighbors and even strangers often found themselves touched by her kindness. She will be remembered by her compassion, her resilience, and her quiet wisdom she carried through life. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled, the love she gave, and the countless lives she brightened. She is survived by twelve grandchildren: Thad Holcombe (Alana), Haley Holcombe Hunt (Daniel), Ben Holcombe (Madison), Dawn Field (Walter), Ashley Holcombe Sykes (Kris), Chelsea Holcombe Allen (Trey), Chris Britt (Tonya), Ginger Britt King (Austin), Colby Latham (Presley), Cameron Latham, Kathryn Vernon Comer (Jonathan), and Jacob Vernon; twenty great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Ledbetter; two brothers-in-law, Riley Holcombe and Norman Holcombe (Carol); and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Tucker. Joyce’s legacy is one of faith, love, and devotion. She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory and strive to honor the example she set. Visitation will be Sunday, January 11, 2026, at from 1:00 -2:00 P.M. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 P.M. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Towery officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Garden Cemetery in West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. Pallbearers will be Thad Holcombe, Ben Holcombe, Daniel Hunt, Walter Field, Colby Latham, Cameron Latham, Kris Sykes, and Trey Allen. Honorary pallbearers are the many friends at Calvary Baptist Church, Kyle Chandler, her caregivers: Rosa Gonzales, Rina Morgan and Naima El Youmni, her many friends and patrons of Jiffy Shop and Holcombe Self Service, and her Doctors, Nurses and Staff at The Meadows of Fulton.
