Mrs. Mary Edna Whitmire Stafford

Mrs. Mary Edna Whitmire Stafford, 86, passed away on October 17, 2022, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. Mary Edna was born June 16, 1936, in Choctaw County, the daughter of the late Maxey and Mary McKinley Whitmire. Upon graduating from Weir High School, Mary Edna attended Holmes Junior College before moving to West Point. Mary Edna and Robert Erle were married on April 8, 1962. They were married for 53 years before his death in 2015. Robert Erle and Mary Edna had two daughters, Anita and Susan. Mary Edna worked as an Administrative Assistant throughout the years, as well as a homemaker. When Robert Erle retired, they drove for Mitchell Automotive in West Point, where they helped deliver, shuttle, and transport vehicles. Mary Edna loved to travel, especially to the Smoky Mountains, and driving for Mitchell Automotive allowed her to travel to many new places. She rarely met a stranger, and she made friends almost everywhere she went. Among her hobbies were cross stitching, square dancing, and gardening. Mary Edna loved life and she loved having fun. Her laughter filled any room she was in. She never missed an opportunity to support her children or her grandchildren in their pursuits, and she meticulously documented these memories in journals, scrapbooks, and photo albums. She was an avid Mississippi State sports fan. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in West Point. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband. Visitation will be Friday, October 21, 2022, from 11:30 A.M.-1:30 P.M. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 P.M. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Danny Avery officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Garden Cemetery in West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include two daughters, Anita Stafford Schoolar (Richie) of Pickensville, Alabama and Susan Stafford Mordecai (Jerrod) of Bradenton, Florida: four grandchildren, Kyle Schoolar, Max Schoolar (Kayla), Cody Mordecai, and Matt Mordecai, and one brother, Jimmy Whitmire (Jeri) of Booneville. Pallbearers will be Kyle Schoolar, Max Schoolar, Cody Mordecai, Matt Mordecai, Dewey Cox, and Jimmy Morgan. Mark Stafford is an Honorary Pallbearer.
