Mr. Ganss (Bob)

Bob Ganss, 84, passed away, on Friday, December 16, 2011 at Anderson Regional Medical Center, in Meridian. Robert Emil Ganss was born January 4, 1927 in Peoria, Illinois to the late Theresa Kennedy and Emil L. Ganss. Mr. Ganss worked in Consumer Finance; he came to West Point working with Gulf Finance Company, then later worked for Bank of Mississippi developing a small loan office business, then later he established West Point Finance Company in 1974. Mr. Ganss was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Lions Club for over 50 years, and had served as State Governor of Mississippi, he and wife Martha traveled countries including Japan, the world over representing the Lions Club. He was an avid Lion's Club pin collector; he enjoyed traveling and trading pins with other collectors. He was a proud veteran of the U. S. Navy having served during WWII. Robert E. Ganss married Montez Thompson Ganss, March 3, 2007, in West Point; his wife Martha Scott Ganss preceded him in death on June 9, 2006. Funeral services will be Monday, December 19, 2011, 2:00 p.m. at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Jeff Shannon officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery West Point, MS. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include his Wife Montez T. Ganss of West Point; Step Sons, Scott Murrah (Barbara) of Columbus, and Dennis Fulgham of Meridian; five grandchildren; Jeff Murrah, Drew Murrah, Robert Clark, Steve Clark, and Stehanie Tindell. Eleven great grandchildren; one sister, Miriam Cote (Phil) of Donners Grove, IL; Numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by step-daughter Linda Murrah Clark. Pallbearers will be Jeff Murrah, Drew Murrah, Robert Clark, Steve Clark, Butch Fulgham, and Randel Whitmire. Honorary Pallbearers will be Members of the Friendly Fellowship Sunday School Class, Dr. John Cox, Dr. T. N. Braddock, All members of the West Point Lion's Club. Memorials may be made to the Mississippi Lion's Club, 431 Katherine Drive, Flowood, MS 39232 or to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 293, West Point, MS 39773. Visitation will be Sunday, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Calvert Funeral Home.
