Mr. O. M. Johnson

Mr. O. M. Johnson, 83, passed away on September 5, 2023, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. Mr. Otis Morrell "O. M." Johnson was born on December 16, 1939, in Choctaw County, to the late Odie Lee and Hazel Shurden Johnson. Having lost his mother as a toddler, his dad then married Ethel Sanders Johnson. Mr. O. M. founded Johnson Timber Company in the 1960's. He was an avid outdoorsman and woodworker, having a specialty in ornate wood molding. He enjoyed raising catfish and carrying people fishing. He was a member of Harmon Lake Hunting Club. He was a faithful member of Mhoon Valley Church of Christ, where he helped build the church from trees that were made into logs for building. He served as the Bishop of the church until his declining health. He was known as a "tough man", but was affectionately known by his family as a loving, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Sellars and Ruth Foreman and one brother, Everette Yeatman. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point and on Friday, one hour prior to service. Funeral services will be on Friday, September 8, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Roger Mitchell officiating and assisted by Brother John White. Burial will follow in Memorial Garden Cemetery in West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Susie Johnson of Cedar Bluff: one daughter, Sherry Cannon (Terry) of Cedar Bluff: two sons, Rodney Johnson (Jeannie) of West Point and Randy Johnson (Linda) of Detroit, Alabama: nine grandchildren, Jason Cannon (Joni) of Cumberland, Cain Cannon (Cindy) of Steens, Michael Patterson (Claire) of Cedar Bluff, Joseph Johnson (Bett) of Cedar Bluff, Miranda Corbell (Nathan) of West Point, Brooke Hamilton (Jacob) of Caledonia, Ashton Sims of Detroit, Alabama, Callie Wiginton (Alex) of Hamilton, Alabama, and Gunner Johnson of Detroit, Alabama: twelve great-grandchildren, Garrett and Kale Cannon of Cumberland, Carmen Cannon of Steens, Hope Gordon (Kyle) of West Point, Tate, McKinley, and Hallee Hughes Johnson of Cedar Bluff, Cody and Houston Patterson of Cedar Bluff, Lennox Hammer of Detroit, Alabama, Sam Sims of Detroit, Alabama, and Rogan Wiginton of Hamilton, Alabama, one great-great-granddaughter, Clara Evelyn Gordon of West Point, and a sister-in-law, Sara Yeatman. Pallbearers will be Jason Cannon, Cain Cannon, Michael Patterson, Joseph Johnson, Garrett Cannon, and Nathan Corbell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Employees of Johnson Timber Company, Winston Yeatman, Scott Yeatman, Larry Thorpe, Walter Quinn, members of Harmon Lake Hunting Club, and his many friends.
