Mr. William Levin Watkins

Mr. William Levin Watkins, 93, passed away on April 19, 2024, at The Meadows in Fulton, after a brief illness. William was born on July 20, 1930, in the Griffith community in Clay County, the son of the late James Levin and Mattie Watkins. He was a graduate of Siloam High School. He was a Honorable Discharged Veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. He was a past member of the Griffith Christian Church, where he served as a deacon. In his last years, he was a member of the First Christian Church in West Point. William was a retired employee of Babcock and Wilcox, having retired after 38 years of service. If someone addressed him as "Bill", he knew it was likely a co-worker from B&W. He loved his family and being a part-time farmer. He especially enjoyed working outside and "piddling" in his shop. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. William married the love of his life, Dorothy Ellis, on August 21, 1955. She preceded him in death on July 19, 2019. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Lee Watkins. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, from12:00-2:00 P.M. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 P.M. at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Towery officiating. Eulogy will be delivered by Mr. Eric Watkins. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point with Eric Ross delivering graveside comments and prayer. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. Survivors include two sons, Cliff Watkins (Janet) of West Point and Eric Watkins of Tupelo: three grandsons, Jared Levin Watkins of West Point, Andrew Thomas "Drew" Watkins (Meredith) and Cayson Eric Watkins, both of Tupelo, and two great-grandsons, Samuel Hudson Watkins and Andrew Hayes Watkins, both of Tupelo. Pallbearers will be Larry Gates, Gregg Kaiser, Michael Patterson, Mark Randle, Randy Simmons, and Ben Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers will be former co-workers at B&W, his many friends in the Griffith community, and his many friends at both the Griffith Christian Church and First Christian Church in West Point.
