West Point, Mississippi-Colonel Billy Dick Steele, 92, passed away, on June 4, 2012, at Dugan Memorial Home in West Point. Colonel Steele was born October 10, 1919, in Brookston, Texas, to the late Byrdie Gosa Steele and George T. Steele. At a young age, Colonel Steele moved to the Palo Alto Community of Clay County, where he lived and spent most of his life. Colonel Steele was a Veteran of World War II, having served first in the United States Army where he was Honorably Discharged as Second Lieutenant. Then he served as a Pilot in the United States Air Force, retiring as Colonel after 28 years of total military service. He was a member of First Christian Church, where he served as an Elder. He married Kathryn Hill Steele on August 27, 1951. They traveled extensively around the world throughout his military career including more than 40 countries. Mrs. Kathryn passed away on October 21, 2009. Funeral services will be Friday, June 8, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dale Funderburg officiating. Burial with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include his Brother-in-Law and Sister-in-Law: B.W. and Ruth Hill, Brother-in-Law: Hal Hill, Sr.; His Nieces and Nephew: Sandra Hill Crawford (Mac), Dr. Hal Hill, Jr.(Susan), Debbie Hill Billington (Bill), Angie Hill McCollum (Craig) and Donna Hill Ross (Scott) and a number of great nieces and nephews. Those preceding Colonel Steele in death were his nephew, Richard Avery Hill and Brother-in-Law: William Hill. Pallbearers will be Morgan Billington, Gary Billington, Ross Billington, Bill Billington, Clay McCollum, Craig McCollum, Mac Crawford, and Scott Ross. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Hal Hill, Jr., Stephen Ross, Clark McCollum, Mac Allen Crawford, Mort Stroud, Pete Dexter, Toby Dexter, Jack Elliott, Jack Wilson, The Bible Learners of First Baptist Church, the Christian Men's Fellowship at First Christian Church, and the Staff of Dugan Memorial Home.
