Mr. Gene A. Grubbs, 74, passed away on November 8, 2014 at his residence in Prairie. Mr. Gene was born March 24, 1940, in Union County, the son of the late James Ross and Edith Lorraine Hall Grubbs. He was a Civil Engineer, having worked as an Estimator with CECO in Columbus for 37 years. He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, where he was the Treasurer since 1970. He was also the longtime Treasurer of the Houston Parrish of the United Methodist Church. He was a Gideon and a diligent volunteer with the Project Homestead Food Pantry. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and friend. He married Kitty Baker on December 19, 1965, at the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Harold Grubbs. Funeral services will be November 11, 2014, at 10:00 A.M. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Steve Lampkin officiating, and assisted by Reverend Ginger Holland. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in the Una Community of Clay County. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include Wife Kitty Baker Grubbs of Prairie; Two Sons, Jerome Grubbs (Wendy) of Guntown, and Marty Grubbs of Prairie; Three Grandchildren; Laken Grubbs of Lake Charles, LA, and Makenna and Carter Grubbs of Guntown; One Brother, Rev. Dr. Carl Grubbs (Diane) of Madison; Brother-in-Law & Sister-in-Law: Clark & Shirley Baker of Prairie. Pallbearers will be Dennis Moon, Tommy Stockton, Barry Smitherman, Billy Smitherman, Ron Howell, Shane Howell, Eric Brown and Drew Shoemaker. Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Building-Mission Fund, C/O Mr. Dennis Moon, 7259 Brand-Una Road, Prairie, MS 39756, Pleasant Grove/Cantrell Cemetery Fund, C/O Mrs. Brenda Henley, 13660 Baker Rd, Prairie, MS, 39756, Project Homestead Food Pantry, P.O. Box 891, West Point, MS 39773. Visitation will be Monday 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Calvert Funeral Home.
