Mr. L. Urbane Breland

Mr. L. Urbane Breland, 98, passed away on February 12, 2018, at his home in Mathiston. Mr. Urbane was born on April 5, 1919, in Choctaw County, the son of the late Lester and Ruby McClain Breland. He served in the United States Army during World War II, where he served in the Anti-Air Craft Division, where he was a Gunner. Mr. Urbane was a Beef Cattle Farmer and served as a Park Ranger for the National Park Service for 30 years. Mr. Urbane was an outdoorsman and an avid turkey hunter, having once killed two turkeys with one shot. He was an expert sharpshooter with accuracy and time. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Choctaw County where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was also a member of the V.F.W. in Maben. He married Ella Mae Coggins Breland on October 7, 1962, in Mathiston, and she preceded him in death on November 16, 2015. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son: Wilbur Huffman, Jr., 2 sisters: Charlene Dabbs and Eunice Pinnix, and 2 brothers: Morrell and Grady Breland. Funeral services will be Friday, February 16, 2018, at 2:00 P.M. at Fellowship Baptist Church in Choctaw County with Reverend Wade Stevens officiating and assisted by Reverend Benny Jones and Reverend Ralph Cain. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include three Daughters, Maggie Jones (Cecil), Addie Fondren (Max), and Lesa Wilson (Scott); Son, Robert Huffman (Ronda) all of Mathiston; 16 Grandchildren, 26 Great-Grandchildren, and 11 Great-Great-Grandchildren and a Daughter-In-Law: Sheila Huffman of Mathiston, and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be his Grandsons: Reverend Benny Jones, Sammy Jones, Mark Jones, Greg Fondren, Kim Jones, Jeff Huffman, Clint Huffman, Daniel Huffman, Chad Fondren, Brad Huffman, Drew Huffman, and Jake Wilson.
