Mr. Lamar Wilbourn Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mr. R. Lamar Wilbourn, 78, passed away on February 19, 2016, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Mr. Lamar was born on his family's farm in Como on July 7, 1937, the son of the late Lamar Davis and Ethele Sealy Wilbourn. Growing up on the family farm in Tate County taught Mr. Lamar many life lessons and values, including a hard and loyal work ethic, traits he possessed and cherished his entire life. He married Mrs. Verna Dye on January 2, 1959, in Memphis, TN. Shortly thereafter they moved to West Point where Mr. Lamar went to work for Bryan Foods. He retired form Bryan Foods, where he worked in maintenance in the canning and labeling division. He was a member of the Mississippi Army National Guard, having been called to serve during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, and was a member of the Senior Men's Sunday School Class. He was a Gideon, serving with the West Point Gideon Camp, where he shared his love of God to everyone. Mr. Lamar enjoyed working in his yard and fishing. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Son-in-Law: David Clowers and Four Sisters: Rosemary Shinbaum, Mildred Smith, Lila Childers, and Joyce Alcorn. A Celebration of Life for both he and Mrs. Verna will be held jointly Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at 1:00 P.M. from Faith Baptist Church in West Point with Reverend Ben Yarber officiating. A private family burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include His Wife Verna M. Wilbourn of West Point; Two Daughters, Sheila Gillespie (Jim) of Midland, TX and Patricia Clowers of Columbus; Two Sons, Robert L. Wilbourn (Amy) of Starkville and Chaplain Paul D. Wilbourn of Ft. Dietrich, Maryland, Six Grandchildren and Three Great Grandchildren; Two Sisters, Pat Cahill (Jim) of Senatobia and Glenda Barbee (Jessie) of Brentwood, TN; Three Brothers, Bill Wilbourn (Jenny) of Senatobia, Jimmy Wilbourn (Cindy) of Starkville, and Charles Wilbourn of Southaven; and A Host of Nieces and Nephews. Pallbearers will be Bill Ladd, Al Christopher, Stanley Bramlett, Walter Moore, Rick Coleman, and Randy Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Members of the West Point Gideon Camp and His Church Family at Faith Baptist Church.
