Mrs. Melba Barnes Springer

October 14, 1929 - July 9, 2017

Mrs. Melba Barnes Springer, 87, passed away on July 9, 2017 at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. She was born on October 14, 1929, in West Point, to the late Herbert and Annie Cecil Reid Barnes. She was of the Baptist faith. She was a homemaker who her husband, James, referred to as the "Princess" of the family. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She married James Edward Springer on May 11, 1949 in West Point. They were married for 65 years. He preceded her in death on July 28, 2014. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son; James Edward "Jimmy" Springer, Jr. and 3 Brothers: Herbert, John Reid, and Floyd Barnes. Graveside services will be Thursday, July 13, 2017, at 10:00 A.M. from Memorial Garden Cemetery in West Point with Dr. James Towery officiating. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include Her Two Sisters, Emma Kate Manning of Fort Walton Beach, FL and Rubye Wray (Joe) of West Point and a Host of Nieces and Nephews. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38015-1942 or to Palmer Home for Children, P.O. Box 746, Columbus, MS 39701.
