Rubert L. Staten, 78, passed away, August 31, 2011 at the Regency Hospital in Jackson. Rubert Lawson Staten was born June 30, 1933 in the Una community of Clay County to the late Myrtle Lawson Staten and Dilworth Staten. He began working at Bryan Foods, then later with the Mississippi Department of Agriculture as a Meat Inspector for 35 years until retiring in 1995. Mr. Staten was a member of Griffith Christian Church. He was a Veteran of U. S. Army having served during the Korean War. Rubert Lawson Staten was married to Frances Ivy Staten on August 7, 1953, in West Point. Funeral services will be Friday, September 2, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with the Dr. Mims Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Palo Alto Cemetery near West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Frances Ivy Staten; and one daughter, Emily A. Black (Billy) all of Cedar Bluff; one son, Jimmy Staten (Debra) of Pearl; Six grandchildren; Christina McCoy (Nathan), Robby Staten (Ruth), Katie Stafford (Clayton), Michelle Cheney (John), Robert Black and Cody Staten; Eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Crosswhite of Prairie, Sally Pate of West Point; two brothers, Paul Staten of Aberdeen, MS, Durward Staten (Nita) of Okolona. Four brothers preceded him in death. Pallbearers will be Grandsons, Robby Staten, Cody Staten, Robert Black, John Cheney, Clayton Stafford, and Nathan McCoy Honorary Pallbearers will be William L. Watkins, David Croft, Gary Pumphrey, Ray Pumphrey, Ralph Elliott, Jr., Edmund A. Reid, Coy Gaskin, Oliver Wright, Carl Gillespie, David Boyd, Tommy Golson, Bobby Russell, R. B. Davis, Kenneth Ricks, Jack Wilson, Dr. Edmund A. Miller, Brett Miller, Rita Castle and the Cardiac Rehab Group, . Memorials may be made to Palo Alto Cemetery Care Fund, c/o Jack Elliott, 9010 Hwy 47, West Point, MS 39773. Visitation will be Friday, 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m. service time at Calvert Funeral Home.
