Mrs. Opal Odell Lloyd McGee

May 7, 1919 - July 15, 2016

Mrs. Opal Odell Lloyd McGee, 97, went to heaven on Friday, July 15, 2016 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born May 7, 1919, in the Palestine Community of Clay County, to Lessie Thompson Lloyd and Jasper Newton Lloyd. She joined William Ellis McGee in Holy Matrimony on December 16, 1948 and they were married for 42 years. Mrs. McGee was a former employee of Knickerbocker Manufacturing in West Point for 20 years, but spent most of her life as a loving wife, mother, neighbor and happy homemaker in the Palestine and Montpelier communities of western Clay County. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, reading and watching the hummingbirds flock to the feeders she put out each Spring. She also enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and SEC basketball on television. As a lifelong member of Palestine United Methodist Church, she was a fine example of an obedient servant through her membership, attendance and support. Mrs. McGee was a treasure and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She leaves a strong legacy of unfailing faith, humility and inspiring footprints. In Addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons and brother, Jasper Lloyd. Funeral services will be Sunday, July 17, 2016, at 3 p.m. at Palestine United Methodist Church with the Reverend Ben Rosenkrans officiating, assisted by Reverend Eddie Brock and Reverend Carey Sutphin. Burial will follow in Palestine United Methodist Church Cemetery in Montpelier. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include A number of Nieces and Nephews, Caregivers: Gary and Roxie Brock of Montpelier and Caregiver: Lynn Simmons of West Point. Pallbearers will be Lon Smith, Doug Webber, Ray Gibson, Andy Moore, Danny Goode, and Bennie Clark. Memorials may be made to Palestine United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Mrs. Roxie Brock, 9675 Joe Stevens Road, Cedar Bluff, MS 39741. Visitation will be 1:30-3:00 P.M. at Palestine United Methodist Church in Montpelier. The family would like to thank the staff at Waverly Care Home and North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice and Home Health. Friends may leave an online condolence at www.calvertfuneralhome.com
