Mr. William Thompson "Fireball" Roberts Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mr. William Thompson "Fireball" Roberts, 78, passed away on November 12, 2017, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. Mr. Thompson was born on November 11, 1939, in the Strong Community of Monroe County, the son of the late William Riley and Sallie Mae Meek Roberts. Mr. Thompson was a member of Strong United Methodist Church. Mr. Thompson was a Veteran of the United States Navy having served in both the Vietnam and Korean Wars. Mr. Roberts was a Retired Heavy Equipment Operator with the Mississippi Depatment of Transportation and was a Self-Employeed Row Crop Farmer. Mr. Thompson loved to hunt and fish, tinker on farm equipment and small engines and to race cars. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Joyce Pinkerton and Ina Hamlin and a brother: Wesley Riley Roberts. Graveside Services will be on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. from Memorial Garden Cemetery in West Point with Dr. Roy McHenry officiating. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include Two Sons, James W. "Jay" Roberts (Lorene) of Lackey and William R. "Bo" Roberts (Kimberly) of Amory; Three Grandsons: Wesley T. Roberts (Kelsey) of Tishomingo, Jordan P. Roberts (Shannon) of West Point, and J.J. Roberts (Morgan) of Eupora and a Granddaughter: Crystal McBride (Shannon) of Henderson, Nevada; Several Great-Grandchildren, and Two Sisters, Roxie Pearson (Sam) and Sallie Mae Watson (George) both of Strong. Pallbearers will be William R. Roberts, James W. Roberts, Jordan P. Roberts, J.J. Roberts, Wesley T. Roberts, and Paul Littleton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Roy Lee Lindsey, Doyle Fowlkes, Jimmy D. Fowlkes, Mike Pearson, and the Nurses and Staff of Sanctuary Hospice House. Memorials may be made to Sanctuary Hospice House, 5159 West Main Street, Tupelo, MS 38801 or to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
