Mrs. Wilma Laurene Johnson Wright

July 23, 1921 - January 3, 2015

Mrs. Wilma Laurene Johnson Wright, 93, passed away on January 3, 2015, at her residence, in the Pine Bluff Community of Clay County. Mrs. Wilma Laurene Johnson Wright was born July 23, 1921, in the Pine Bluff Community of Clay County, the daughter of the late: Charlie Oliver and Mable Eudora Moore Johnson. Mrs. Wilma was a lady who demonstrated strength, substance, wisdom, discernment, and love for her family, church, neighbors and friends. She possessed a strong moral character. Mrs. Wilma was a member of Pine Bluff Baptist Church, where she was very active, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Song Leader, and Leading and Teaching Bible School. Just in the last few years, she provided and furnished the church with an additional restroom facility. Mrs. Wilma served the Montpelier School as a basketball chaperone, Senior Sponsor, President of the P.T.A., and entertained faculty, students, and parents in her Pine Bluff home. She married Charles Carey Wright on April 20, 1938, in Clay County and they were married for over fifty years. She worked side-by-side her husband gardening, driving his school buses, working in their dairy operation, working tirelessly in the cotton fields, and anywhere needed to help provide for their family. He passed away March 2, 1989. Her work ethic was that of a perfectionist, creating masterpieces of crochet, needle-point, and cross-stitch, and quilting for her home and hundreds of family members and friends. To this day, her masterpieces can be seen on display in her beloved Pine Bluff Baptist Church. On a happier note, Wilma was a beautiful, blonde haired little girl, whose father called her "Sweet". And when a family member could not say "Sweet", her nickname became "Teet", therefore from that point on, she was know as "Mama Teet" and "Miss Teet" to all her close friends and family. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Wilma was preceded in death by Two Sisters: Mildred Elizabeth Johnson Wright and Charlsie Claudine Johnson; by Two Brothers: J.C. and Lawrence Hulon Johnson and by Twin Infant Brothers. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at 2:00 P.M. from Pine Bluff Baptist Church with the Reverend H.L. "Butch" Simmons officiating and assisted by Mrs. Joann Pumphrey. There will also be a period of visitation at Pine Bluff Baptist Church, Tuesday, January 6, 2015, from 1:00-2:00 P.M. Burial will follow in Pine Bluff Cemetery. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include Four Daughters, Charlsie Hulon Wright, Cora Glen Dendy (Lamar), and Doni Wright Lucius all of Pine Bluff Community of Clay County and Mildred Judy Gilliland of West Point; Four Grandchildren: Christi Laurene Carter (Steve) of Caledonia, Laurie Adonna Stephenson (Chris) of Smithville, Jason Wright Gilliland (Mary Ann) of West Point, and Jill Leigh Middleton (Carl) of West Point; Nine Great Grandchildren; Zachary Tyler Stephenson (McKenzie) of Fulton, Charlsie Kathleen "Katy" Allen (Lee) of Amory, Cole Dendy Carter of Caledonia, Stevi Laurene Carter of Caledonia, Carleigh Anne Middleton, John Carver Middleton, McKenzie Leigh Middleton, Andrea Jacie Gilliland, and Kadence Hart Butler all of West Point; One Great Great Grandson: Owen Wyatt Stephenson of Fulton.
