Mr. Billy Warren Reid

Mr. Bill Warren Reid, 88, passed away on April 12, 2026, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. Bill was born on November 23, 1937, in Cedar Bluff, the son of the late John David and Fannie Bell Ellis Reid. He graduated from West Point High School in 1955. He served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserve and the Mississippi National Guard, being honorably discharged from both. Upon completing his service, he worked for the United States Department of Agriculture as a federal inspector, the position he held until his retirement. The majority of his time as an inspector was spent at Bryan Foods in West Point. He married Sally Karen Bean, better known as Kay, on July 29, 1967. Bill was happiest outdoors and in motion; sitting was not his forte’. He loved to hunt, preferably deer, but he was not wasteful so he never pulled the trigger unless he knew that the meat would be used by his family or others. His love of being outdoors was evidenced by the fact that many times he left the house to go hunting, his rifle remained home or stowed safely in his truck; he simply went and sat in his deer stand to, as his daughter called it "commune with nature." Bill was also an avid gardener and worked tirelessly in his garden which, every year almost without fail, produced the largest tomato harvest known to man and some of the hottest peppers on the planet. He enjoyed woodworking and built several shelves, bookshelves, and cabinets for his family over the years. He could fix almost anything but steadfastly refused to try his hand at anything related to plumbing or electricity, because he said he didn't want to flood the house or burn it down. He spent many an hour at various places, including Don's Drive-In, Tin Lizzie, or the Barber Shop, for his "Coffee Klatch" where he and his buddies drank coffee and discussed the happenings in West Point. One might call these coffee meetings gossip sessions, but Bill would never admit to that. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth O'Shields and Libby Jones. A private family graveside will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Memorial Garden Cemetery in West Point with Dr. James Towery officiating. Survivors include his wife, Kay Reid of West Point: one daughter, Missy Reid Stennett (Bill) of Tupelo: one granddaughter, Reid Stennett of Tupelo: one sister, Joan Dunham of Williamsburg, Virginia, a number of nieces and nephews, and special friends, Burt and Ann Nix of Cedar Bluff and Jaimy and Regina Towery of West Point.
