Mattie (Evelyn)Thompson of Cedar Bluff, passed away at the age of 91 on May 10, 2026, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. Visitation will be at Calvert Funeral Home on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 1:00-3:00 P.M. followed by the funeral service in Calvert Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 pm. Brother Andy Parrish will officiate, with Dr. James Towery assisting. Burial will follow in Cairo Cemetery in Cedar Bluff. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. Evelyn was born on October 31, 1934, in Clay County. She was the daughter of the late Claude and Naomi Watkins. She was a lifelong member of Cairo Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she faithfully served Jesus as her Savior and Lord. She married Jack Thompson on May 8, 1952, in Cairo Church. They faithfully served in the church together during their 61 years of marriage before his death in 2014. They were wonderful parents to their two children, Danny and Sandra, teaching and guiding them to come to know Jesus at an early age. Evelyn graduated from Mississippi State University in 1969 with a degree in Secondary Education. She later earned a Master’s degree in Secondary Education. She taught English in the West Point Consolidated School District for 25 years. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a society for women educators. Evelyn enjoyed reading, cooking, traveling, and attending MSU basketball games. She and her daughter attended the women’s home games together, and she enjoyed going to the men’s games with her brother and his wife. In addition to her parents and husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by a Son - Danny Thompson and by three infant granddaughters - Jennifer, Jill, and Joyce White. Evelyn is survived by one Daughter - Sandra White (Andy) of Cedar Bluff; and by one Daughter-in-law - Ann Thompson of Petal; Four Grandchildren: Clay White (Kristen); Matt White (Elise) ; Scott Horton; and Dana Bailey; Nine Great- Grandchildren: Kendall White; Caleb White; Noah Hyer; Matthew Horton; Austin Horton; Amy Horton; Kara Simmons; Rebecca Bailey; and Jacob Bailey; five Great-Great-Grandchildren: Isla Horton; Gunner Bounds; Masie Kate Bounds; Harper Horton; and Millie Broome; One Sister: Elizabeth (Lib) Henderson of Mt. Airy, Georgia; One Brother: Bryant Watkins of Chickasaw County, One Sister-in-law: Elizabeth Gann of Houston and several nieces and nephews who brought her great joy when they visited. Pallbearers will be Clay White, Matt White, Mark Henderson, Jerry Harkness, Terry Chrismond, and Rodney Johnson. Memorials may be made to The Gideon’s International, P.O.
