Mrs. Geonette Harrison Pendley Obituary (1922

Mrs. Geonette Harrison Pendley, 99, passed away on May 9, 2022, at Dugan Memorial Home in West Point. Geonette was born on August 25, 1922, in Steens to the late Kenneth and Ora Morris Harrison. She has been an active member of First United Methodist Church in West Point since August 1968. She was the oldest church member. She enjoyed singing in the Senior Choir. She was known at the church for her homemade pies, especially her minced meat pies. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Nothing was more important to her than family. Her family always came first. She was always at every school event, church event, art show, piano recital, play, and ballgame. She was always happy and busy while singing a song. Always full of life, she enjoyed laughing, and her kitchen was full of laughter. She was a wonderful seamstress and loved to play games especially Rook and Mexican Train. She set an example by living Proverbs 31: 10-31. She was a loving wife taking care of Hollis for 70.5 years. Always the loving, caring mother, the last thing she would tell her family as they closed the door would be “I love you and be careful.” She married Hollis Marshall Pendley on November 2, 1940, at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Parsonage. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2011. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters; Frances H. Stokes and Juanita H. Brown and two brothers; Kenneth Harrison, Jr. and Arthur Harrison. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. from Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Columbus with Dr. Darian Duckworth officiating and assisted by Mr. Ben Rosenkrans. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. Survivors include her daughter, Gen Thomas (Ben) of West Point: two granddaughters, Cynthia Thomas Dannan (Matt) of Washington, D.C. and Kate Thomas Nevins (Reid) of Hamilton, three great-grandchildren, Eli and Will Nevins of Hamilton, and Hazel Dannan of Washington, D.C., and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Ben Thomas, Reid Nevins, Eli Nevins, Jack McGee, Logan Watkins, and Joe Askew, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Will Nevins, Staff at Dugan Memorial Home, and Valerie Miller, RN.
