Mrs. Grace Holland Campbell Cliett, 91, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2015, in her home in West Point. A life-long native of West Point, Grace Cliett was born on July 2, 1924, to the late Henry Carlisle Campbell and Bessie Critz Campbell. A vibrant, quick-witted and large-hearted person who left an indelible impression on all who knew her, she lived a life fully engaged in civic matters, church and family, Ms. Cliett worked for many years in county government, including as Chief Deputy Clerk in the Chancery Clerk’s office. She was President of the West Point Chapter of the American Cancer Society from 1979 to 1992 and served on the Board of the West Point Housing Authority from 1990 to 2010. She volunteered with the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts and was a past Regent of the DAR. She worked tirelessly on projects such as the restoration of Central School and was active over the course of her life in both the First Christian Church and the First United Methodist Church. High school sweethearts with her husband of almost 64 years, Charles. B. "Charlie" Cliett, Sr. , Grace and Charlie were a great team, whether as student leaders in West Point High School’s Class of 1942, raising their children, supporting their church, maintaining their immaculate yard and devoting their energies to Mississippi State University, where Mr. Cliett worked for more than 50 years. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 29, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. from First United Methodist Church in West Point with Reverend Jeff Shannon officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Ms. Cliett is survived by a son, Charles B. Cliett, Jr. of Little Rock, AR; Her Sister, Marie C. Watson of West Point; and her many loving Nieces, Nephews, In-Laws, and Dear Friends. Campbell, Sr., Edna R. Owen, John R. "Bob" Campbell, Dr. Joe W. Campbell and Bessie C. Wyman. For the last eight years of her life, Ms. Cliett bravely endured numerous health issues that left a woman defined by activity and motion both immobile and in need of constant care. Her caregivers, led by Katie Lenoir, who had cared for her sister Bessie before her, became her close friends and fierce protectors. The family also appreciates the attentive care of the team from North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice over the last months of Ms. Cliett’s life. Pallbearers will be Carlisle Campbell, Wade Roberts, Scott Marshall, Bob Wyman, John Wyman, George Hinnant, Eddie Hinnant, and Art Shirley.
