Mr. Jack Edward Golson

Mr. Jack Edward Golson, 84, passed away on May 23, 2016, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. He was born October 22, 1931, in West Point the son of the late Wilson and Dixie Kegley Golson. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired welder from Babcock and Wilcox Corporation, retiring after 20 years. He was a retired Sergeant Major with the Mississippi Army National Guard, having served with the 223rd Engineering Battalion based in West Point and retiring after 27 years of service. He was an avid sports fan loving the Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, Ole Miss Rebels and New Orleans Saints. He was a member of the West Point Masonic Lodge #40 F.&A.M., where he was a Master Mason. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles. He married Sarah Helen Hodnett on January 23, 1953, in Clay County, and they were married for 63 years. She passed away May 23, 2016. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by son-in-law, Bobby Brown; Three Sisters; Maxine Richards, Mildred Nichols, and Dorothy Hodnett; and Two Brothers: Richard and Jimmy Golson. A Celebration of Life for both he and Mrs. Sarah will be held jointly Saturday, May 28, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Charlie Whitney officiating and assisted by Reverend Jason Middleton. Burial will follow in Memorial Garden Cemetery in West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include Two Daughters, Sharon G. Williams (Danny) of Columbus and Anita G. Brown of West Point: Four Grandchildren; Cory Williams (Becky) of Columbus: Lacey Breen (Joseph "Dallas") of Starkville: Dustin Ray (Lesley) of Amory, and Kirby Ray of West Point: Three Great-Grandchildren; Zoe Williams of Columbus, Trevan Ray of Amory, and Cayden Breen of Starkville: One Sister, Janet Mills of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Two Brothers, Charles C. Golson (Ann) of Columbus, and Douglas M. Golson (Virginia) of West Point. Pallbearers will be Christopher Hodnett, Charlie Golson, Tommy Hodnett, Eddie Richards, Steve Hodnett, Daniel Hodnett, Shannon Mills, Rodney Hodnett, Jon Pernell, Daniel Pernell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Eddie Armstrong, Milton Kendrick, Greg Hodnett, Justin Brown, and Jerry Coggins, members of the 223rd Engineering Battalion of the Mississippi Army National Guard, Former Co-Workers at Ellis Steel, Former Co-Workers at Babcock and Wilcox, Dr. Andrew Wartak, Amy Hawkins, and the Nurses and Staff of North Mississippi Medical Center Home Health Care.
