Mrs. Kathy Baker Martin

Mrs. Kathy Baker Martin, 72, passed away peacefully, at home after an extended illness, on June 9, 2026. Kathy was born at King’s Daughters Hospital in Greenville, on November 3, 1953, to the late Billy and Mary Stevenson Baker. She was a 1971 graduate of Louisville High School and a 1988 proud graduate of the Mississippi University of Women, graduating with a degree in Nursing. She was married to Allen Martin, her loving husband, for 55 years. She started her nursing career at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point as a surgical nurse, but found her true calling in long term care ending her career as MDS Coordinator at Aurora Health and Rehab in Columbus. Although she loved taking care of her patients, she was truly passionate about caring for any and all animals. She took care of many animals including a newborn kitten that a neighbor found that she had to feed with a syringe and had to carry back and forth to work with her. Visitation will be Friday, June 12, 2026, from 12:00-2:00 P.M. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 P.M. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Dave May officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. Survivors include her husband, Allen Martin of West Point: two daughters, Alison Pinkerton (Sandy) and Susan Hodges (Lamar), both of West Point: one son, Michael Martin of Memphis, Tennessee: four grandchildren, Avery Pinkerton, Milly Hodges, Jax Hodges, and Wyatt Pinkerton, all of West Point: two brothers, Bobby Baker (Tracey) and Billy Don Baker (Cindy), both of Louisville, and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Terry Benson, Jim Clark, Sandy Pinkerton, Lamar Hodges, Avery Pinkerton, and Mark Frady. The family would like to recognize as Honorary Pallbearers, Carlie Godwin, Eddie Holcombe, Rodney Fulgham, Staff of Gentiva Hospice, especially Charlene Cooke, Keena Kaiser, and Denise Strong, Dr. Matthew Dowdy and his nurse, Alex Dornak, and the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff of Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle in Columbus.
