Mrs. Bessie Kay Brazil

–

West Point, Mississippi

Mrs. Bessie Kay Brazil, 77, of West Point, transitioned to her Heavenly Home Monday, October 5, 2026, at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Bessie Kay Brazil was born in Clay County, on July 5, 1949, to the late Herbert Green Coggins and Lydia Jewell Coggins. Bessie was immensely proud of her Coggins and Smith families lineages. She graduated from West Point High School in the Class of 1967 and earned her Bachelor's of Education from Mississippi State University in 1971. Bessie married Joe Brazil in January 1971. Bessie and Joe served the United States Air Force, beginning 1974, for 22 years. She taught elementary education a number of years in various locations, including Guam. She also taught conversational English at Misawa Air Base Japan in 1992. She did administrative medical office work as well. Bessie was a minister, counselor, and Scripture reader in several non-denominational ministries. She was a true Holy Spirit filled prayer warrior, bringing Glory to God, especially the past two decades. Bessie’s humbleness was ‘a Light in the Darkness’ for all, especially family, as a true Bond Servant for God. She was an amazing cook, loved new recipes, loved dogs and cats, loved old hymns and Christian music, loved card games, loved family, loved to laugh, and loved helping others. She was just that, a Godly woman of Love.

Bessie is survived by her husband of 55 years, Joe Brazil of Bellevue, Nebraska: her daughter Jennifer (Rod) Ready of West Point: her twin sons, Joshua Brazil (Jordan) of Omaha, Nebraska, and Jacob Brazil of West Point, and Jennifer’s children, Kayley Godek of Omaha, Nebraska, Michael Dawson Godek (Savannah) of Omaha, Nebraska, and Madison Godek of Pass Christian.

Visitation will be on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 12:00-2:00 P.M. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 P.M. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Joe J. Brazil officiating and assisted by Dr. James Towery. Interment will follow in Palestine Cemetery in Montpelier. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Spirit of Excellence Ministries, 103 Slusher Court, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22405, or Open Door Mission, P.O. Box 8340, Omaha, Nebraska 68108.
