Mr. Robert John Bessey

West Point, MS – Mr. Robert John Bessey, 77, passed away on May 9, 2014, at his residence in West Point. Mr. Robert John Bessey was born November 19, 1936, in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late William Joel and Marie Rita Blunt Bessey. He was a Catholic. He retired as an E-9 from the United States Navy after 34 years, where he served during the Vietnam War. He married Jean Fair on November 30, 1962, in Memphis , TN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Son: Robert J. Bessey, II; Brother: William Bessey; and Two Sisters: Marie Herrmann and Barbara Woods. At the requests of Mr. Robert John Bessey, Burial at Sea will take place at a later date embarking from Norfolk, VA. Funeral services will be May 12, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with an United States Navy Chaplain officiating. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include Wife Jean Bessey of West Point; Three Daughters, Paula Bessey Verhine (James) of Decatur, AL, Gabrielle Denise Bessey of Huntsville, AL, and Danielle Angelique Kelley (Samuel) of Springdale, Arkansas; One Son, Robert J. Bessey, III of West Point; Six Grandchildren; One Brother, Charles "Bud" Bessey (Brenda) of Myrtle Creek, OR; Preceding him in death were his Son: Robert J. Bessey, II; Brother: William Bessey and Two Sisters: Marie Herrmann and Barbara Woods. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rob Bessey, Charles "Bud" Bessey, James Verhine, Robert Verhine, Michael Adams, Samuel Kelley, Samson Kelley, Eli Kelley, and Gideon Kelley. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P. O. Box 1818, Memphis, TN 38101. Visitation will be Monday 1:00-2:00 P.M. at Calvert Funeral Home.
