Robert Herbert Wooten Sr.

–

West Point, Mississippi

Robert Herbert Wooten, Sr., 88, went to be with the Lord on October 26, 2026, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by family and friends. Herbert was born on February 23, 1938, in Montpelier, Mississippi, to the late Eloise and Cliff Wooten.

Herbert served in the National Guard for six years and worked as a welder/ maintenance worker at Bryan Foods for 25+ years. An ironworker by trade, he notably helped build Humphrey Coliseum at Mississippi State University. A true jack of all trades, Herbert was a hardworking man with a wide range of interests, including coon hunting and bull riding. He especially enjoyed horses and rodeos, a love he passed down to his sons and grandsons.

Herbert was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Brenda, for 58 years. Together, they shared a love that was evident to everyone around them. They were rarely apart, always smiling, and never short on love for one another. Their marriage was a beautiful example of the life they built together, grounded in faith, family, and a shared love for the Lord. They instilled in their children the importance of seeking the Lord above all else and keeping Him at the center of their lives and their family. The home they built was one filled with warmth, laughter, and a love that reached far beyond its walls.

Herbert was a loving father to five children, two sons and three daughters, who were blessed beyond measure to call him "Daddy". His love for his family was steadfast, and the legacy he leaves behind is one of faith, devotion, and a life well lived.

One of Herbert’s greatest joys was being a grandfather and great-grandfather. Affectionately known as "Paw," he delighted in watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren learn, play, and grow. He never missed an opportunity to make them laugh, whether by sharing a story, offering a little playful mischief, or teaching them how to stick out their tongues and make expert-level silly faces - a specialty of his own. To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was so much more than a grandfather; he was a source of joy, laughter, and a love they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Herbert had a gift for making people smile. It rarely took more than a few minutes in his company before he was telling a joke, reminiscing with a story, or finding someone to lovingly tease. And if you were fortunate enough to know him well, you knew that giving him a little teasing in return was just as welcome. He loved to laugh, and he made sure those around him had plenty of reasons to do the same. His humor, warmth, and unmistakable personality made time spent with him a gift, and the memories he leaves behind will continue to bring smiles for years to come.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Selena Wooten, his sister, Peggy Mizzell and by two brothers, Billy Wooten and Scotty Wooten
